Public Access to Court Electronic Records (PACER) allows users to obtain case and docket information from federal appellate, district, and bankruptcy courts for a fee. Registration is required.

An initiative to provide open access to public records, the RECAP Archive makes available pleadings from PACER gathered on RECAP through the use of Firefox, Chrome, and Safari extensions. The collection is not comprehensive.

For large corporate bankruptcies, particularly of public companies, the claims agent appointed for the debtor will often make available case documents for no charge. To find these, try entering the name of the debtor, along with the phrase "claims agent site" into a search engine. Then click on the resulting link and look for a menu item that says "Docket" or "Case Documents." Many of these sites also have search tools.
