Examplify Troubleshooting Tips

If you experience any computer-related issues with Examplify during your exam, such as freezing or other technical difficulties, contact the Records Office immediately. For assistance outside of business hours, ExamSoft Support is available 24/7 at 866-429-8889.

The troubleshooting steps below are intended to address common problems and help ensure a smooth and successful exam experience. As a reminder, students will not receive additional time on an exam due to computer or technical issues.

Restart Your Computer Before Starting an Exam

Restarting your computer helps clear temporary files that are cached in memory, which Examplify relies on the most. A simple restart can resolve many issues caused by lingering background processes.

Disable Unnecessary Programs

Programs such as Spotify, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, Skype, and others often start automatically when your computer boots up and continue running in the background. These programs may attempt to restart during your exam, potentially causing your computer to freeze. Restart your computer and take note of any programs that start automatically. Go to the settings of these programs and turn off the auto-start feature.

Disable Your Anti-Virus Software

Anti-virus software can sometimes interfere with Examplify, causing your computer to freeze or behave unexpectedly. To prevent these issues, ensure that your anti-virus software is turned off temporarily before starting your exam. If you're unsure how to disable your anti-virus software, please contact the IT Help Desk for assistance at help@law.ucla.edu.

What to Do if Computer and/or Examplify Freezes While Working On an Exam

If your computer and/or Examplify freezes while you are working on an exam, often the best way to address the frozen device or software is a hard reboot of your computer.

To perform a hard reboot of your device, please follow these steps:

  1. Hold down the power button on your device until it powers off completely.
  2. Press the power button again to turn your device back on.

After rebooting, re-launch Examplify. Rest assured, Examplify automatically saves your answers every 60 seconds, so your responses will not be lost during this process.
