Immigration Law Research Guide: Primary Sources

Provides general and specialized sources for researching U.S. immigration law, including online government resources, statutes, regulations & case law, plus general and specialized secondary sources and immigration-related organizations.

Introduction

This section of the guide will help you locate primary source materials, specifically statutes, administrative regulations, administrative decisions, and case law.  Because immigration is regulated by multiple federal agencies, it helps to have a clear picture of those agencies (see the "Federal Agencies" tab).

There will be an overlap between this section and the Federal Agencies section, because many of the federal agencies' websites contain a wealth of primary source material.  Call numbers provided are the call numbers used in the UCLA School of Law Hugh & Hazel Darling Law Library.

*Note: Both Westlaw and LexisNexis have topical Immigration libraries containing both primary law and secondary sources.

For Westlaw: Practice Areas > Immigration.

For Lexis: Home (or "Practice Area") > Immigration.  Database Library and File abbreviations are included in this guide.
