Introduction
Welcome! The Hugh & Hazel Darling Law Library is pleased to provide its students with this research guide, which is aimed at helping students prepare for (and hopefully pass!) the California bar exam.
In the following pages, you will find suggestions for steps you can take to prepare for the bar exam. The guide begins by providing overviews of the California Bar Exam and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam. Next, guidance is provided for steps that you should take during your 1L, 2L, and 3L years. The Guide then provides links and information for commercial bar review courses, test-taking tips, and other resources that many students find helpful in preparing to take the bar exam. The Guide next provides a "Checklist for Success," which we encourage students to print and check regularly to ensure that they're on track for successfully taking the bar exam. The final tab provides information about the delivery of results for the exam and steps to take after passing the exam. A Guide Outline is provided on the left hand side of every page of this Guide to help readers easily navigate its contents.
With some planning, diligence, and confidence in your abilities, you can pass the bar exam! You're off to a great start already as a student of the UCLA School of Law: According to the State Bar of California, approximately 89% of the UCLA School of Law's first-time test-takers who sat for the July 2012 Bar Exam passed the Exam, compared to the statewide average for California of 69%.
